Created in 1999 by the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Charleroi BioPark houses around 108 companies and involves 3,700 individuals in research, development, and production of new drugs, medical devices, and diagnostic methods.
These endeavors span diverse fields, including oncology, immune diseases, cell and gene therapy, vaccines, and neurodegenerative diseases, among others.
Charleroi BioPark accommodates subsidiaries of major international corporations like Catalent and Thermo Fisher Scientifics, SMEs from various countries (France, Spain, Canada, China,..) and Belgian companies that have ascended to global leadership positions like the Univercells Group supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation or Iteos Therapeutics a Nasdaq listed company.
The growth of the campus is supported by three research institutes affiliated with two universities ULB and UMONS, a dedicated training center ULB-HELSCI and the BioPark Incubator.
